A 20-year-old Route 32 Minibus Conductor was yesterday charged with raping a 14-year-old girl.
Vikash Persaud of Tuschen North, East Bank Essequibo (EBE), appeared before Magistrate Zameela Ali-Seepaul, where the charge was read to him. Persaud was placed on bail in the sum of $350,000, and the matter has been set to continue on September 4, 2020.
It is alleged that on February 21, 2020, Persaud and the child met after school and went to a hotel in Bushy Park, Parika, East Bank Essequibo (EBE).
At the time, the 14-year-old girl had a $100,000 in her possession, which her mother gave her to take home. It is alleged that Persaud used the money to pay the hotel bill and kept some for himself.
After returning home, her mother questioned her about the money, and then she found out what transpired. She then made a report to the Leonora Police Station, and the Childcare and Protection Agency, and an investigation was launched.
