Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, Charles Ramson has confirmed the dismissal of APNU+AFC candidate, Christopher Jones from his position as Director of Sport. Ramson told Guyana Standard that a new appointment will be made soon.

President Irfaan Ali has already made it clear that youth development is one of the many areas he considers paramount.

Ramson said “The President considers sport to be critical to youth development and believes that it can be used as a tool for national healing. Also, the President, as well as myself, understand that sport has its place in the economy. Once natured and managed correctly, sport can become a major revenue earner as is the case in many other countries.

Ramson said that therefore, “an appointment will be made soon because there is a lot of work to be done and we have no time to waste.”

The Minister indicated that a few names are already being considered and “I am confident that the government will make a decision in good time.”
