Agriculture Minister, Zulfikar Mustapha says that there is a sporadic resurgence of the illegal trade of pesticides and toxic chemicals from neighbouring countries and registration of veterinary pesticides.

He said that a Ministry of Agriculture team will meet with the Ministry of Natural Resources to resolve the technical issues related to the importation of various important chemicals that are used in the respective sectors.

“We will also ensure that we enforce the Laws related to the illegal trade of pesticides, and anyone caught will face the wrath of the laws,” the Minister said.

He also spoke about the Pesticides and Toxic Chemical Control Board
(PTCCB) experiencing challenges with regard to the Management of the Environment Protection Agency (EPA) on its mandate and role and its legislation. This is impacting on the trade of pesticides and toxic chemicals for the manufacturing, mining, industrial, oil and gas and agriculture, the official said.
