Twelve Brazilians who were arrested on July 30, 2020, along the Rockstone Trail in Region Ten, were today charged for illegal entry.

They all appeared before Magistrate Wanda Fortune at the Linden Magistrate’s Court and denied the charge when it was read to them.

The court heard that on the day in question at around 02:00h, police acting on intelligence intercepted a minibus transporting Brazilian nationals along the Rockstone Trail.

They were all escorted to the Upper Demerara Hospital (UDH) quarantine facility at Wismar, Linden, where they underwent COVID-10 testing. After the test, they were handed over to the immigration department and charges were instituted against them.

After listening to the facts, the Magistrate remanded all twelve of them to prison until August 19, where they will make their next court appearance.
