Minister of Public Infrastructure and Finance, Bishop Juan Edghill, disclosed during the reading of the 2020 budget speech that several measures will be put in place to ensure that the oil revenue works for all Guyanese, and is spent on improving people’s lives. To achieve this, Minister Edghill revealed that some of the oil revenue will be directed to job creation, world-class education and health care for Guyanese, social and economic infrastructure, and targeted cash transfers to Guyanese particularly the elderly, children, the poor, and other vulnerable groups.

Minister Edghill revealed that the government will also ensure strong local content for Guyanese with legislative safeguards, that there are savings for future generations, and that there is tax reduction for Guyanese businesses and individuals.
