A Sophia, Georgetown couple, which the Customs Anti- Narcotic Unit (CANU) busted with amphetamines in both powdered and pill form, along with a small quantity of marijuana, was today slapped with two drug trafficking charges.

33-year-old Nylon Wilson and 19-year-old Nadira John, both of Lot 804 ‘C’ Field Sophia, Georgetown, were hauled before Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs- Marcus in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court to answer to the charges.

It is alleged that on November 20, 2020, at Lot 804 ‘C’ Field Sophia, they had in their possession 1016 grams of amphetamine for the purpose of trafficking. They were ordered to post bail in the sum of $75,000 each.

It was further alleged that on the same day, at the same location, they had 8 grams of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking. They pleaded not guilty and were released on bail in the sum of $5000 each. The matter was adjourned to December 21, 2020.

Guyana Standard had reported that the duo was intercepted by ranks of CANU during a raid of the couple’s two-bedroom home and discovered the illegal items.

The duo was then informed of the offense, arrested and taken to CANU’s headquarters, where they were questioned in relation to the illegal substance.

At the time of the arrest, John had a baby in her care, which was handed over to another individual to keep.
