The Guyana Police Force (GPF) has arrested two suspects as investigations continue into the alleged rape of a 7-year-old girl.

This was confirmed by Regional Commander, Superintendent Dion Moore, who explained that investigations are still ongoing. He said, once the investigations have been completed, a file will be sent to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for legal advice.

Reports are that the child’s mother woke up between 04:00hrs and 05:00hrs on Friday and went to check on her children when she discovered that her daughter was missing.

The mother then raised an alarm, and neighbours started a search party in a bid to locate the missing child. However, later in the day, residents found the teenage boy naked in some bushes while the child was found unconscious nearby.

Residents tied up the alleged perpetrator, and the police were alerted but reportedly arrived hours later. While being tied up, the suspect implicated another teen in the gruesome act.

In a video seen by Guyana Standard, as police place the teen at the back of an ATV to be taken to the police station, residents began beating him with sticks and other objects.

The little girl was taken to the Bartica Regional Hospital and is in stable condition.
