A 41-year-old minibus driver and a 48-year-old Accountant were today granted bail in the sum of $40,000 each after pleading not guilty to five separate charges of obtaining money by false pretence.

Dwayne Charles, also known as “Uncle,” and Claire Joseph, both of Central Amelia Ward, were hauled before Magistrate Wanda Fortune in the Linden Magistrate’s Court.

The court heard that the duo was operating an alleged Ponzi scheme and obtained $21,500 from Gavin Munroe, Vernon Richmond, Leslie Jervis, Odetta Hall, and Salome Henry.

The duo was slapped with five charges of obtaining money by false pretense and pleaded not guilty. Magistrate Fortune granted them bail in the sum of $40,000 on one of the charges and self bail on the other matters.

As a condition of bail, they had to lodged their passports and are required to report every last Friday of the month to the police until the matter is concluded. The case was adjourned to January 12, 2021.
