A 9-year-old is presently in a stable condition at the Georgetown Public Hospital after he collided with a motor car along the Canal # 1 access road, West Bank Demerara (WBD).

The accident occurred on Monday at about 16:00 hrs. The driver is said to be a 38-year-old man of Gap Road, La Jalousie, West Coast Demerara (WCD).

Reports are that the motor car was proceeding east along the northern side of the access road, reportedly at a fast rate of speed while the 9-year-old was standing along the northern side of the said road.

The driver alleged that while in the process of passing the 9-year-old, he made a step forward and collided with the left side front fender and wing mirror and fell onto the northern edge of the road’s surface and parapet some distance away from where he stood. The child received injuries to his body.

The driver then stopped and picked up the pedestrian in a conscious state and took him to the West Demerara Regional Hospital, where he was seen and examined by a doctor on duty.

He was later transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC), where he was admitted as a patient. His condition is regarded as stable.

Two breathalyzer tests were conducted on the driver, and no trace of alcohol was found. He was, however, taken into custody and is assisting with the investigation.
