Eighteen days into the new year and Guyana has already surpassed 580 new cases of the Coronavirus disease.

The Ministry of Health’s dashboard today, shows 6,931 confirmed cases, an increase of 583 from January 1, 2021 (6,348). This translates to an average of 32 new cases daily.

Since the year began, six persons would have succumbed to the disease. The death toll now stands at 170.

While confirmed cases continue to edge towards the 7,000 mark, the country is recording increased recoveries. Within the 18 days of the new year, 305 persons were cleared.

Today’s figures show that 551 persons are in home isolation, 33 in institutional quarantine, four in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and 19 in Institutional quarantine.

The number of tests done since March 2020, is 44,500.
