The Government of Guyana, through the Attorney General’s Chambers, has sued Courtney Benn Contracting Services and its insurance company, Caricom General Insurance company for breach of contract in relation to the reconstruction of St. Rose’s High School.

According to court documents seen by Guyana Standard, Attorney General, Anil Nandlall is asking the High Court for the first-named defendant, Courtney Benn Contracting Services, to pay the government $414.3M.

Alternatively, the AG is asking for an Order of Restitution against the second-named defendant, Caricom General Insurance for all monies owed on the advance grantee and performance bond to the government of Guyana.

Last November, the Attorney-General Chambers terminated the $352.7 dollar contract stating breaches.

The 2019 Auditor General (AG) Annual Report revealed that the previous government had already issued significant amounts of money, in some cases far exceeding the works done.
