Guyana has suspended the search for a vessel with decomposing bodies that was first sighted earlier this week over 100 nautical miles from the country’s shore.

The crew of a tug which made the gruesome discovery on Monday morning, last saw the vessel at around 19:55hrs, some 83 nautical miles from the shoreline.

The vessel is said to contain the mangled remains of persons. Little is known about the origin of the vessel. Public Works Minister, Juan Edghill said that based on photographs provided by the crew of the tug, the mysterious vessel has no engine or identifying marks.

Despite several reconnaissance flights and water searches, local authorities have been unable to locate and intercept the vessel.

Guyana has since alerted Trinidad and Tobago to be on the lookout.
