Jankie Tapsie called Samantha Khan, 27, of Grassfield, Lusignan, East Coast Demerara, who was being sought for the murder of a La Grange, West Bank Demerara businesswoman was captured in Suriname yesterday.

According to reports, Jankie is accused of murdering 85-year-old Bibi Ramjit at her home last October. Jankie escaped police custody last November and had managed to cross into Suriname undetected.

She was handed over to the Police by Suriname authorities yesterday as the investigation continues.

Ramjit was found dead on Sunday 25th October 2020 between 15:00hrs and 17:00hrs inside her bedroom.

Enquiries disclosed that the deceased lived alone in a two-storey wooden and concrete structure where the upper flat was used as the living quarters, while the lower flat housed a grocery shop.

Reports state that on the day in question, at about 15:00hrs, a 59-year-old farmer went to purchase eddoes from Ramjit, who didn’t have change for his $5000 note. He collected the eddoes and told the woman that he would return with her money later that day.

Two hours later, the farmer returned to the shop, where he observed the shop door and the back door to the upper flat wide open. He called out several times for Ramjit but got no response.
He then proceeded to the house’s upper flat, where he looked into a bedroom and saw the deceased lying motionless on her back on a bed with her feet and hands tied.
