The Regional Democratic Council of Region Seven (Cuyuni Mazaruni) will be moving to construct four schools within the district. Invitation for Bids has already been issued calling for eligible and qualified bidders to register their interest.

An Engineer’s Estimate of $28.53M has been made for the construction of a Primary School at Kurutuku. Another primary school is also slated to be built at Issano, at an estimated cost of $39.35M, and one at Waramadong to the tune of approximately $42.06M. Additionally, a Nursery School will be built at Dagg Point, with an estimated price tag of $30M.

Over $5B would have been allocated in the 2021 Budget for the construction and rehabilitation of educational facilities within the country. An overall sum of $60B was greenlighted to support education delivery this year.

Guyana Standard understands that aside from Region Seven, more schools will also be constructed in Regions Four (Demerara/Mahaica) and Six (East Berbice/Corentyne).

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Education has, in its budget, some $10M to conduct feasibility studies for the construction of new schools in the hinterland and remote areas.
