David Lampkin, 24, a police constable , was today charged for assaulting another officer who is wanted for two charges.

He appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts where Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan read the charge to him.

It is alleged that on January 31, at Brickdam Police Station, he unlawfully assaulted Cornette Corbin, a police constable.

His attorney told the court that he was shot in the leg by another officer while on duty and was charged for assault while the other party remains on the run. He then asked for reasonable bail to be granted.

The Magistrate then placed him on self-bail and the matter was adjourned until May 18.

Guyana Standard understands that Constable Lampkin was shot to his leg after an argument ensued between the two policemen over a missing pair of slippers.

Following the incident, Constable Lampkin was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital and received treatment for the gunshot wound to his right leg.
However, the Court Prosecutor told the court that Corbin is wanted and is expected to face two charges.
