Twenty-year-old Akeem Davidson, a laborer from Retrieve, Linden, is believed to have drowned yesterday around 14:15hrs at Mabura.

Police say that Davidson and his friend, Sheldon Vanaco went to bathe at a creek located about 300 meters away from their camp. The camp is about five kilometers away from the Mabura Police Outpost.

While they were swimming, it is alleged that Davidson went down in the creek and failed to resurface.

Vanaco told police that he shouted to Akeem telling him to “stop playing”, but fifteen minutes elapsed and he got no response from his friend.

He went back to camp and alerted Ephraim Benn – the camp owner – of what transpired and they both searched for Akeem but could not find him.

Police were dispatched to the area in search of the victim and at midnight last night, the search came up empty-handed.

Both Sheldon and Ephraim remain in police custody assisting with the investigations.
