Two men who were charged for killing Isaiah Henry last September, are now freed of the charge after a Magistrate upheld a no-case submission by the defense.

33-year-old Anil Sancharra, called “Dan pole” or “Rasta,” of D’ Edward Village, WCB; and 34-year-old Vinod Gopaul, also known as “Magga,” of Yakusari, Black Bush Polder, Corentyne, Berbice, were at the Blairmont Magistrate’s Court where the preliminary inquiry (PI) into the matter was being conducted. Magistrate Peter Hugh was presiding over the PI when he dismissed the charge against the two men after a decision in support of the men’s attorney Dexter Todd.

The magistrate supported the no-case submission by the defense counsel and ruled today that on the close of the prosecution’s case there was no admissible evidence of murder established against the two men.
The court is set to commence the PI on the murder of Joel Henry on August 10.

The bodies of 16-year-old Isaiah Henry and his 19-year-old cousin, Joel Henry, were found aback by Cotton Tree Village on September 6, 2020, severely mutilated.

The court heard the accused had set up marijuana farms at the West Berbice area in August and subsequently found that they were destroyed in September. The two men vowed to find the culprits and mutilate them. After doing their investigations, they were told about two young boys who would usually be in the area.

They continued their search for the culprits and subsequently met up with the Henry boys.
Upon questioning, the suspects were angered that they were not being taken seriously and proceeded to teach the boys a horrible lesson.
Their deaths triggered protest actions in West Coast Berbice and other parts of the country.

Haresh Singh, 17, was killed days after the Henry boys, as he made his way to a farm located in the same village. The young man was a relative of one of the suspects in the Henry boys’ murder probe. Four persons, Philip Anderson called ‘Ratman’, 29, of Lot 25 # 3 Village, West Coast Berbice, Joel Gittins, called ‘Bolo’, 27, of Jangotown, East Coast Demerara, Glaston Henry, called Gladwin Henry, aka ‘Soldierman’, 27, of # 3 Village, West Coast Berbice, and Charles Scott, called ‘Bucko’, 21, of lot 29 Jarvis Street Rosignol, Berbice have been charged with the death of Haresh.
