A pedestrian, name, and address unknown, was this morning injured in what police are treating as a hit and run accident, which took place sometime around 02:10hrs at the Railway Embankment, Liliendaal, East Coast Demerara.

The victim is believed to be about 60 years old, and according to police, he appeared to have been walking along the southern side of Railway Embankment when he was struck by a motor vehicle that was proceeding in an unknown direction, which later drove away.

As a result of the collision, the pedestrian fell onto the road surface and received injuries to his body.

He was then picked up by EMT personnel in an unconscious condition and taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation where he was seen and examined by a doctor on duty and later admitted a patient in the Accident Emergency Unit Critical Bay. He is said to be suffering from broken legs and lacerations to his head and about his body.

The accident was reported to police at about 02:30 hours and the scene was visited where the vehicle’s registration plate, PZZ1276, was discovered along the roadway.
