The Central Islamic Organization of Guyana (CIOG) along with its partnering entities held a two-day medical outreach to Region One last week, where over 2,500 residents from Port Kaituma and Mabaruma benefitted.

CIOG’s partnering entities included: the Guyana Medical Relief (GMR), the Office of the First Lady, the Ministry of Health, the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the Guyana Defense Force, National AIDS Programme Secretariat, the U.S Embassy to Guyana Civil Affairs Team, the U.S Embassy to Guyana Military Information Support Team, and Global Surgical and Medical Support Group.

The outreach provided services such as matters relating to hypertension, dentistry, minor Surgeries, optometry, general health care, HIV and
STDs testing, obstetrics, and gynecology. Treatments were conducted for joint pains and skin rash, Covid-19 vaccination, basic trauma care, preventative medicine, suicide prevention, and other various medical services.

Along with the medical services, the residents of Port Kaituma and Mabaruma were able to obtain a wide range of food hampers, as well as an undisclosed number of mattresses and walkers, clothing, Vitamins, Baby Pampers, and other necessities catering for their daily needs, with over 200 Nationals from the Neighboring Country being able to access Issued to Stay and extension
permits by UNHR.

The CIOG said it extends gratitude to the many partnering entities that came together to make this event a successful one, including the Ministry of
Health, the Office of the First Lady, the Regional Democratic Council in Region One, the Regional Health Officer of Region One, International Organization for Migration, National AIDS Programme Secretariat, National Blood Transfusion Services, the Neighborhood Democratic Council in Port Kaituma, the Cheddie Jagan Dental School, Meditron, Diaspora Auxilium, Guyana Defense Force, Global Surgical and Medical Support Group, Pharma X and the United
Nations High Commission for Refugees.
