A 72-year-old pensioner was robbed yesterday on his way to buy medication at Leonora, West Coast Demerara.

Enquiries disclosed that the victim went to the Leonora Post Office about 10:30hrs to collect his N.I.S, Senior Citizen and Public Servant Pension, which amounted to $187,000 cash. He then secured his money in a black purse and proceeded to a pharmacy opposite the Leonora Fire Station to purchase some medication.

As he was about to enter the said pharmacy, the suspect approached him from an unknown direction and grabbed his black purse containing the above-mentioned cash from his hand.

The victim pursued the robber, who entered a black motorcar bearing registration number PSS 2700 and escaped.

Investigations are underway.
