People’s National Congress (PNC) Member, Aubrey Norton and nine others who carried out protest demonstrations this morning were arrested for an ‘illegal procession’ at the Square of the Revolution, Georgetown, the Guyana Police Force (GPF) said today.

Attorney-at-law, Darren Wade told reporters this morning that at least 16 persons were arrested, but Deputy Director of the Force’s Corporate Communication Unit (CCU), Stan Gouveia clarified this afternoon that nine persons were taken into custody.

Guyana Standard understands that the protestors were all released on $10,000 bail each as investigations continue.

The PNC was, since last week, calling on persons to come out and join the protest called, “Time to Shut down GT”.

Today’s protest was against “force vaccination, high cost of living and dictatorship”.
