Guyana will be receiving a shipment of component two of the Sputnik V COVID-19 vaccine within the next week, President Dr Irfaan Ali said today during a press conference in New York.

More than 80,000 Guyanese are awaiting the second jab of the vaccine. Health Minister, Dr Frank Anthony said earlier this week that the scarcity is stemming from a global shortage. He added that more than 70 countries around the world are administering Sputnik V and all are vying to get second doses.

Dr Ali said today that his government is pulling out all stops to get the second component, noting that calls are being made ‘every night’ to the manufactures and Russian authorities.
