Police are on the hunt for two men who robbed a 26-year-old labourer at Sugrim Singh Road, Ogle, East Coast Demerara, last night before opening fire on a police patrol in the area.

Enquiries disclosed that the victim was heading south along the said road when he was confronted by the two suspects on a motorcycle.

They approached the victim from behind, pointed a handgun at him, took away his cellphone, and pushed him into a trench on the western side of the road.

A patrol from the Sparendaam Police Station was in the area and saw the two suspects as they were mounting their motorcycle and gave chase.

The pillion rider then discharged around in the direction of the police but the ranks were unable to return fire because of traffic in the area.

The suspects made good their escape into D Field Turkeyen, East Coast Demerara. Police said no one was injured.

Checks were made in the area, but the suspects were not found. Investigations are ongoing.
