Nine-year-old Carleisa Lewis was killed in a road accident this morning at Islington Public Road, East Bank Demerara.

Enquires disclosed that motorcar, PJJ 2394, driven by Anthony Persaud of Glasgow Village East Bank Berbice, was proceeding along the Islington Public Road when it is alleged that the pedestrian ran from east to west into the path of the vehicle.

She was hurled onto the road’s surface, receiving injuries about her body and head.

She was picked up in an unconscious condition by her sister and taken to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital by the driver of the motorcar where she was seen and examined by a doctor on duty who pronounced her dead on arrival.

The body is presently at the New Amsterdam Hospital mortuary awaiting post mortem examination.

A breathalyzer test was conducted on the driver and it returned a .000 BAC reading. He remains in custody as investigations continue.
