Isgar Esau, 49, of Goed Fortuin, West Bank Demerara (WBD) died yesterday after he was struck down by a car driven by 59-year-old, retired Assistant Commissioner of Police, Brian Joseph at Meer Zorgen, WBD.

Police say that motorcar, PZZ 6015, driven by Joseph, was proceeding west along the southern side of Meer Zorgen (Harbor Bridge Road) WBD, and in the process of turning at the junction, the vehicle collided with Esau’s motorcycle, CH 7636. Esau was proceeding south along the eastern side of Meer Zorgen Public Road.

As a result of the collision, the motorcyclist fell onto the road’s surface where he received injuries to his head and body.

He was picked up in an unconscious state by public-spirited citizens and taken to the West Demerara Regional Hospital where he was seen and examined by a doctor who pronounced him dead on arrival.

The body was then escorted to the Ezekiel Funeral Parlour for storage awaiting post mortem examination.

Notice of intended prosecution was served after a breathalyzer test was conducted on the driver where .000 % micrograms were found in his breath content.

Joseph was released on $100,000 station bail as investigations continue.
