Roxanne Daniels, 37, of Sophia, Greater Georgetown died yesterday after she was involved in an accident along the Eccles Industrial Site Access Road, East Bank Demerara.

The accident involved a motor lorry and a motorcycle and occurred sometime around 15:40hrs. The motor lorry, GAB 332, is reportedly owned by RK Concrete Guyana Incorporated and driven at the time of the accident by 41-year-old Renaldo Ruiz, of Eccles New Housing Scheme, EBD. The motorcycle, #CJ 4871, is owned and was driven by 48-year-old Maxwell Thomas of lot 1541 Onderneeming, West Bank Demerara.

Police investigations disclosed that the motor lorry, GAB 332, was reversing from the west going east on the southern side of the said road when the rear portion of the lorry collided with the said motorcycle which was proceeding west along the southern side of the said road.

As a result of the collision, the motorcyclist along with pillion rider Roxanne Daniels fell onto the road’s surface and received injuries.

Both persons were picked up in an unconscious condition and taken to the Diamond Hospital where Daniels was pronounced dead on arrival by a doctor on duty.

The motorcyclist was examined, treated, and referred to the GPHC. He was admitted to the said hospital suffering from a fractured right leg and other injuries. His condition is regarded as critical.

The accident was reported to the police at 15:45hrs. Measurements and statements were taken, a notice of intended prosecution served, accident scene and vehicle photographed, and the lorry and motorcycle were both lodged to be examined.

A breathalyzer test was conducted on the lorry driver and no trace of alcohol was detected.

The driver is currently in custody as investigations continue.
