Lenox Shuman, Member of Parliament (MP) representing the joinder list has disclosed that he recently met with the Leader of the Opposition, A Partnership For National Unity + Alliance for Change (APNU+AFC), Joseph Harmon to discuss ways to make the Parliamentary Opposition more effective at holding the Government accountable.

The Deputy House Speaker, in a Facebook post, said that “Politics does not have to be acrimonious”.

Shuman said that he discussed with Harmon the stall in Confirming the Chief Justice and Chancellor of the Judiciary in their substantive posts, as well as other matters relating to Parliament.

“Further, I issued an appeal for financial support for one research assistant for our one seat and Hon. Harmon agreed to cover the cost for one such person as his party’s support for an Indigenous Parliamentarian. I had previously written to the clerk of the National Assembly requesting same to strengthen our representation and the letter was referred to Hon. Gail Teixeira. We await the response,” he posted.

Shuman said that Harmon was “cordial, receptive and open to discussing issues”.
