Rajindra Dhoray, called ‘Raja’, 40, was severely chopped last Saturday around 18:00hrs at Topoo, Albion, Corentyne, Berbice.

On the day in question, it is alleged that Raja left home on a bicycle and went to the shop to purchase bread. While he was returning home, the victim saw the suspect on the street with a cutlass in his hand.

As Raja was about to pass the suspect, the man pulled him off his bicycle and dealt him a chop to his right hand, which caused two of his fingers to be severed, and another chop to his chest which caused him to receive further injuries.

As a result, an alarm was raised by the victim’s daughter causing the suspect to escape. The victim’s daughter picked up her father and transported him to the Port Mourant Public Hospital where he was seen and examined by a doctor on duty. He was later transferred to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital, where he was admitted a patient.

Investigators have since made contact with the suspect where he was told of the allegations, cautioned, arrested, and placed in custody pending further investigations.
