The Guyana Police Force has launched an investigation into the alleged murder of Deon Charles, 28, from Lot 42 Middle Road, La Penitence. Guyana Standard understands that the incident occurred at 23:50 hrs in James Street, Albouystown.

Investigations thus far have revealed that on the date and time mentioned, Charles was standing on the southern side on James Street Albouystown when a white Axio appeared from an eastern direction and stopped in front of Charles. Two males exited the back seat of the car, one of whom was identified and approached Charles. Police indicated that a loud explosion, suspected to be that of a gunshot, was heard and Charles fell to the ground. The men immediately re-entered the car and made good their escape.

Charles was subsequently picked up by public-spirited citizens and taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

His body was examined and a gunshot wound was seen on the left side of the head.

Efforts were made to locate the two male suspects but they remain at large.

Investigations into the alleged murder are in progress.
