The Ministry of Home Affairs said today that it is inviting sealed bids from qualified building consultants to undertake and complete consultancy services for the design service for the construction of the Brickdam Police Station – 8 Storey.

The ministry said bidding will be conducted through the National Competitive Bidding (NCB) Procedures specified in the Procurement Act 2003 and is open to all bidders.

Interested applicants are required to submit Technical and Financial Proposals which must cover travelling expenses and reimbursements.

The deadline for bids is 09:00 hours on Tuesday, March 15, 2022. Electronic Bidding will not be permitted and late bids will be rejected.

It was on October 2, 2021 that the Guyana Police Force’s Regional Police Division 4 ‘A’ Headquarters at Brickdam, Georgetown, was severely affected by a devastating fire.

The fire, which started about 11:06 hrs in the upper part of an Eastern building, had spread to several other mainly wooden buildings in the compound, despite the efforts of the members of the Guyana Fire Service who subsequently managed to bring it under control.

All the buildings in the compound were completely destroyed with the exception of the station lockups, barracks and Impact Base. In addition, a few police vehicles were slightly damaged, while a number of privately owned vehicles that were detained in relation to matters under investigation were either destroyed or damaged.

The fire also damaged a business place located in Hadfield Street behind the Brickdam Police Station.

During the consideration of budget 2022 earlier this month, the government had said $405M was earmarked for the construction of the Brickdam Police Station. Specifically, Home Affairs Minister Robeson Benn said a design for a multi-storey building has been selected.

“We have had three conceptual designs of which we have adopted one. We intend to get along with our engineering group which has been enhanced by the employment of our own. We intend to work with some consultants in respect of the structural design, foundation design and issues relating to the reticulation in the building for fire, water and electricity,” Minister Benn had said.
