At its February 8, 2022 press conference, the People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR) said it was in receipt of several complaints from Guyanese about the alleged abuse of power, discrimination, and victimization by some ranks of the Guyana Police Force (GPF) across the country.

It informed the nation of its intention to meet with the Commissioner of Police (acting) Nigel Hoppie to have clarity. However, to date, the PNCR said that the Top Cop has not responded.

It noted that “notwithstanding the Commissioner’s silence on this serious matter, our Party will not allow it to slip below the radar”.

The PNCR said that two of its MPs submitted the Notice of Motion on behalf of the opposition coalition to the Parliament Office calling on “the Commissioner of Police to take all necessary steps, inclusive of investigations and retraining, to ensure all members of the GPF respect the human and legal rights of citizens, with special reference to arrest, detention, and fair and equal treatment before the law”.
