The Civil Defence Commission (CDC) today welcomed the newly appointed Director General, Colonel (Retired) Nazrul Hussain. Colonel Hussain is currently the head of the Government’s COVID-19 Taskforce.

Prime Minister, Brigadier (Ret’d) Mark Phillips ushered the new Director General via a simple ceremony at CDC’s Headquarters in Thomas Lands. The senior government official also thanked the outgoing Director General, Lieutenant Colonel Kester Craig, for his years of stellar service.

Major Loring Benons, Deputy Director General of the CDC who also acted as Director General for a short period, indicated that the staff of the Commission will continue to strive toward excellence with the new leadership.

Colonel (Ret’d) Nazrul Hussain said he is eager to learn more about the government entity and is ready to maintain the level of exemplary results produced by the CDC.

The staff of the Commission said it looks forward to working with its new Director General to meet the goals of Disaster Risk Management in Guyana.
