Cops have arrested a 22-year-old man who was in possession of a vehicle that was stolen from a bodywork shop in Grove, East Bank Demerara.

The car was stolen from the property of Rameshwar Dehali, a 41-year-old auto-body repairman of Grove Squatting Area.

The car, a grey Toyota Primo, bearing registration number PSS 6964, valued at $2,400,000, and owned by 22-year-old Anesa Yusuf, was stolen from the workshop between November 8 and 9, 2022.

Enquires disclosed that on November 8, at about 13:30 hrs, Yusuf took the vehicle to Rameshwar Dehali for a spray job. At about 08:00hrs today, he returned to the shop only to find the car, its key and other vehicles’ keys missing.

His security guard, Ellon (only name provided) was nowhere to be found.

A search was launched and the car was found at Second Street Craig, EBD.

Two of the three men who were standing next to the vehicle, pointed out Christopher Persaud, a 22-year-old unemployed man of Craig, as the driver of the vehicle.

Dehali then carried out a search on Persaud and found the car key, along with other missing keys in his pants pocket.

Rameshwar immediately summoned the police, who arrested the suspect and escorted him to the Grove Police Station. The vehicle was subsequently lodged.

Police are still on the hunt for the security guard, Ellon, as investigations continue.
