The mother of a Mahaicony fisherman who was shot and killed on New Year’s Day, along with a policeman, claims that police did little initially to save her son’s life.

The woman, Linda Budburgh, explained that on New Year’s Day, she received distressing news of her son, Kishan Budburgh, being shot and quickly notified her reputed husband who then rushed to the scene with her.

The woman said she arrived at the scene and saw her son laying in agony. She said when she examined him, she noticed a gunshot wound to his abdomen and immediately went for help.

“I said man let us do something; maybe call a taxi but we weren’t getting any to take him to the hospital. I then went to the station to ask for assistance to take him to the hospital and when I went there, they said they wanted no one at the station, so they put us out and locked the gate,” Budburgh recounted.

The woman said she then raced on foot to the hospital to seek the assistance of an ambulance.

“When I got to the hospital they said that there were none available. I then saw a policeman at the hospital and I told him that my son was dying and I needed assistance. He arranged a car to pick him up from the corner where he was laying,” she noted.

The mother recollected that on her way to where her son laid, a police van arrived, but by the time they arrived on the scene to assist, she said her son was unconscious.

“I started screaming. I didn’t know what more to do and the police just stood there and said nothing. And then they picked him up and took him to the hospital,” the woman. She believes that her son would still be alive had she been assisted from the beginning. She said that she is still unaware of who caused her son’s death.

Meanwhile, the Guyana Police Force announced yesterday that a comprehensive probe is currently ongoing in relation to the circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting of Detective Corporal #20922 Dwayne McPherson, a 31-year-old who was stationed at Mahaicony Police Station; and the 20-year-old fisherman of Grove Huntley, Mahaicony, ECD.

Reports suggest that Budburgh was shot by the officer during a misunderstanding in the area. There is still no definitive report from cops up to the time of publication.
