Opposition Member of Parliament (MP), Ganesh Mahipaul is now the third APNU+AFC member hoping to successfully summon the powers of parliament to access all documents pertaining to the Wales Gas-to-Energy Project.

In his question for oral reply from Natural Resources Minister, Vickram Bharrat, the MP noted that the gas project has received $67.9B in support from tax payers. He said that nevertheless, most citizens remain clueless about the financial arrangements in place for repayment.

Mahipaul said the National Assembly is yet to be furnished with the Final Investment Plan for the project.

Also yet to be provided is a copy of a Heads of Agreement between the government and ExxonMobil, its partner on the project. That document was purportedly signed on June 30, 2022.

In an effort to promote greater transparency, Mahipaul called on the National Assembly to instruct the Minister of Natural Resources to lay all documents relating to the construction of the Wales Gas-to-Energy Project along with the Heads of Agreement.

It should be noted that two other APNU+AFC members had approached the House for greater disclosure on the loans to be taken for the project which will transport 50 million standard cubic feet of gas per day from the Stabroek Block to onshore facilities.

Government had assured that all documents would be provided once they are finalized.
