Mitsui Ocean Development & Engineering Company Inc. (MODEC), the contractor building the ‘Errea Wittu’ vessel for ExxonMobil’s Uaru project, is searching for companies in Guyana that can provide third-party manpower services and carbon steel for fabrication and supply.

In a bid to ensure a seamless start to its new project in the region, the company has expressed a keen interest in securing local services as evidenced by its recently published Expressions of Interest (EOIs).

In one of the EOIs, MODEC said it needs over 100 metric tons of carbon steel to be fabricated for various purposes such as cable tray support, pipe support, handrails, ladders, stools, and access platforms.

The announcement, as this news agency understands, underscores the company’s commitment to using high-quality materials in its projects and its desire to source them locally where possible. By partnering with local suppliers for the fabrication of carbon steel components, the company said it aims to support the growth of the local manufacturing industry which by extension, supports its efforts to achieve optimal local content levels.

MODEC is a seasoned owner/operator and an Engineering, Procurement, Construction, and Installation (EPCI) general contractor of a wide range of floating production systems.

In November of last year, it signed a Front End Engineering and Design (FEED) contract for the ‘Errea Wittu’ project, a floating production system, which is anticipated to have an oil storage capacity of two million barrels and an oil production design rate of 250,000 barrels per day (bpd). It will source crude from three fields, namely Uaru, Mako, and Snoek, which together have a recoverable resource of 1.319 billion barrels of oil equivalent in the Stabroek Block.

So far, all of ExxonMobil’s approved FPSO projects offshore Guyana have been built by SBM Offshore, with the Liza Destiny and Unity already producing oil and the Prosperity FPSO for the Payara Development set to arrive for first oil later this year.
