The Government of Guyana (GRoG) has unveiled an innovative apprenticeship programme under the umbrella of the Guyana – Norway Partnership Agreement. The initiative, titled the “Energy Apprentices Programme,” is part of the broader Guyana Utility-Scale Solar Photovoltaic Program (GUYSOL), with financing following the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB)’s guidelines.

GUYSOL and the Guyana Power and Light (GPL) Inc., will play a pivotal role in executing this transformative programme, aiming to bolster vital project management aspects that drive renewable energy (RE) advancement. The overarching goal is to attract and cultivate a diverse pool of talent, including individuals of all genders and abilities, who will contribute to reshaping the energy landscape of Guyana.

In a recent notice, GUYSOL emphasized its commitment to narrowing the gender and diversity gap within the energy sector. Through this apprenticeship programme, the organization seeks to empower individuals who possess a strong professional interest in renewable energy and project management. Positions are available for apprentices in various roles, including civil engineers, electrical engineers, environmental/social officers, procurement and finance officers, and monitoring officers.

Applicants are required to hold a bachelor’s degree in a relevant or related discipline. Successful candidates will be able to contribute to renewable energy projects for a one-year term, receiving a monthly stipend as they gain invaluable experience and contribute to the sector’s growth. The program, slated to span 12 months, is an immersive experience that will take place within Guyana itself.

Prospective applicants, who must be Guyanese nationals, are invited to submit their expressions of interest, which should include essential details such as legal name, address, contact information, and areas of expertise. Short-listing will be based on the alignment of qualifications with the objectives of the apprenticeship program.

The programme’s language of communication and reporting will be English, reflecting Guyana’s linguistic landscape. Selection procedures, meticulously outlined in the Inter-American Development Bank’s guidelines, will be followed, ensuring a transparent and equitable process.
