Khemraj Persaud called ‘Kato’, a 20-year-old labourer of Parika Facade, East Bank Essequibo, and Ganguly Rambarran, a 24-year-old labourer of Anna Catherina, West Coast Demerara, were charged jointly today with the murder of Parika resident, Ravi Ramrattan.

The duo appeared before Magistrate Zamilla Ally-Seepaul at the Leonora Magistrate’s Court, where the charge was read to them. They were not required to plea and were remanded to prison. The matter was adjourned to September 19, 2023 for report.

Ramrattan’s body was found on August 2, in the vicinity of Lotus Mall at Parika. It was clothed in long black pants, a black jersey, and a red bath towel wrapped around the torso. When examined, the body was seen with chop wounds.

A bedsheet with what appeared to be blood was found next to the body. Government Pathologist, Dr. Nehal Singh had earlier this week performed a post-mortem examination with dissection on the body of the 47-year-old Ramrattan, called ‘Socks’, and gave the cause of death as ‘multiple incise wounds’.
