Guyana is expected to welcome the first CARICOM situation room which will provide real time data for farmers. This revelation was made earlier today by President, Dr. Irfaan Ali during his address at the opening of the Agri-Food Investment Forum and Expo 2023 being held for three days at the Arthur Chung Convention Centre (ACCC).

Dr. Ali said the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) will be setting up the CARICOM situation room in Guyana which will give real time data to farmers to ensure evidence-based decision making and more proactive planning in terms of crop development. “So that is another major initiative and Guyana will be leading the development of that regional situation room,” President Ali said.

He further noted that such an initiative would add to the already rich set of policies the government has implemented.

Dr. Ali also noted that another major development is underway since Guyana and Canada are expected to partner on the building of a platform to have at least 3000 young people trained to take up innovative jobs in varying technological fields.

The Head of State said this type of leadership has increased the country’s appeal as a nexus for international cooperation. In this regard, he noted that Guyana is expected to welcome officials from Africa and Europe next weekend as the African Exim Bank will hold its Annual General Meeting and Investment Forum here.

“These things do not happen by accident. These things happen because the world is looking at us from a different lens. The world is examining not only Guyana’s opportunities but its leadership and ability to make a meaningful change in the lives of people across the world,” the Head of State said.

With the foregoing initiatives, the President said Guyana remains on the trajectory of becoming a leader in food security, energy security and climate change by 2030.
