Guyana Deep Water Operations Inc. (GDO), the local subsidiary of SBM Offshore which is a prominent contractor and shipbuilder for ExxonMobil, has issued a Request for Information (RFI) to identify a contractor able to provide shallow water surveys using remote operated vehicles (ROVs).

The general scope of work includes using the ROVs on the Liza Destiny and Liza Unity floating, production, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessels to provide visual inspection of the hull, appendages, and mooring chain segments up to 30 meters water depth. Mooring chain thickness measurement and cathodic protection potential readings on the outer shell and mooring chains are also integral to the survey.

The RFI also aims to solicit technical and operational information from suppliers to meet bid selection requirements and establish a list of qualified bidders before structured bid rules take effect.

In adherence to the local content legislation, the company said it will prioritize Guyanese companies and partnerships. The company also underscored its commitment to long-term sustainability, requiring respondents to present their involvement in the Guyanese community and sustainability projects.

The scope of supply, detailed in the RFI, outlines GDO’s requirements for an ABS approved service provider with expertise in ABS UWILD survey execution by ROV. The contractor’s ROV must be equipped with a high-resolution color camera, cavitation cleaning equipment, cathodic protection potential measurement probe, and mooring chain thickness gauge. Launch and recovery capabilities from the Upper Deck of the FPSO, with a recommended maximum ROV weight of 100 to 150 kg, are also crucial specifications.

As the company continues its operations in the offshore energy industry, this RFI signals a strategic step toward selecting a qualified contractor for the vital ABS UWILD survey, while reinforcing its commitment to local partnerships and sustainable operations.
