In an impromptu address to the nation tonight, President Dr Irfaan Ali announced the impending signing and commissioning of several large developmental projects during this week.

These include:

The Wismar Bridge in Region 10 – The bridge will connect Wismar to Mackenzie, and is set to significantly reduce traffic congestion, as the current bridge only has one vehicle lane. The contract has been awarded to China Railway Construction (Caribbean) Co. Ltd. Works are expected to be completed in 24 months.

The New Amsterdam Hospital – The facility will have state-of-the-art technology to provide critical medical procedures like open-heart, kidney transplant, and pancreatic surgeries, currently unavailable at New Amsterdam Regional Hospital. The sod will be turned before the end of this week, the President noted.

The President also noted that plans have been formalised with the Lands and Survey Commission and the Housing and Water Ministry to create 500 new lots and three formal housing communities to addressing squatting along the Linden/Soesdyke Highway.
