In a bid to champion financial literacy and economic empowerment, reigning Miss World Guyana, Andrea King, recently conferred with Finance Minister, Dr. Ashni Singh to present her latest initiative: Project FLO (Financial Literacy Orientation).

Through a series of well crafted initiatives, the project endeavours to impart invaluable financial knowledge, empowering individuals to thrive amidst Guyana’s expanding economy.

The meeting, held in anticipation of the upcoming Miss World Finals in India, underscored the national significance of King’s mission and sought collaboration on various facets of the project. It was also noted that it marks a significant step in her journey towards advocating financial literacy on a global platform.

Commending King on her efforts, Dr. Singh expressed readiness to explore partnerships on multiple aspects of Project FLO. He emphasized the critical need for enhanced financial understanding within Guyana and highlighted the project’s potential to bridge this gap, aligning with the government’s overarching agenda to acquaint citizens with financial services and cultivate a financially savvy populace.

The Finance Minister’s endorsement of Project FLO resonates with his previous calls for augmented financial literacy, evident in his national budget speeches for both 2023 and 2024. Emphasizing the pivotal role of a robust financial sector in fostering resilience and growth, Dr. Singh reiterated Guyana’s commitment to developing a National Financial Inclusion Strategy. This strategy aims to ensure equitable access to beneficial financial products and services while bolstering financial literacy, consumer empowerment, and protection.

Guyana Standard understands that the initiative is poised to launch a comprehensive array of workshops, school tours, and awareness campaigns aimed at bridging the financial literacy gap. With a focus on inclusivity, the programme caters to diverse demographics, including youth, women, and individuals with low to moderate incomes, ensuring that financial empowerment is accessible to all strata of society.

More importantly, as Project FLO gears up for its forthcoming initiatives, including the CORE Programme, the commemoration of Financial Literacy Month in April 2024, and the inaugural Guyana Financial Education Summit (GUYFES), the momentum towards fostering financial literacy and economic empowerment in Guyana is set to intensify.
