Overseas-based political activist, Mark Benshop is claiming damages in excess of $100 million for libel allegedly committed by social media personality Mikhail Rodrigues, popularly known as “Guyanese Critic”.

In a document seen by this publication, Benschop, through his lawyer and opposition Member of Parliament (MP), Roysdale Forde S.C., contends that Rodrigues, on January 23, 2024, on Facebook on a show named “Morning live with Critic” accused Benschop of having “led black people to their death in the office of the President compound”.

Benschop is also seeking a Mandatory Injunction compelling the Respondent to forthwith permanently remove the alleged defamatory statements from the “internet” through the Respondent’s Facebook social media forum.

According to the document, Rodrigues is accused of saying, “I don’t see Jagdeo as a fearful person and I continue to ask myself why they allow the PNC (People’s National Congress) to get away with the crimes they commit against the people in this country. Somebody call me and tell me Aubrey Norton calling for war, fighting…..

“Jagdeo is the individual who pardon now Benschop who had become a torn in the side of the Government. Benschop for what he did, he led black people to their death in the office of the president compound. He should have rot in hell, in prison for the rest of his life. Jagdeo pardon him. Duh is the reality.”
