President Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali has unveiled plans to introduce a $10,000 universal health care voucher for every Guyanese citizen starting in 2025. This initiative is set to benefit over 500,000 individuals across the country and represents an investment of more than $5 billion in the nation’s health and wellbeing.

President Ali made the announcement during a special sitting of the National Assembly at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre (ACCC) in Liliendaal on Thursday.

The voucher will be designed to cover the cost of essential medical tests, providing baseline health data to guide preventative measures against non-communicable diseases (NCDs).

“The universal health voucher will help us as we work to build a healthy, strong, and resilient population,” stated President Ali.

This new initiative builds on the government’s ongoing efforts to support vulnerable groups, with children and the elderly already receiving free eye tests and spectacle vouchers distributed nationwide.
