I am writing to express my opinion on the highly anticipated 100k cash grant that will be given to every guyanese citizen above the age of 18, and the fact that it will be accessible to Guyanese living abroad.
The 100k cash grant will indeed provide a relief to citizens while also serving the overall economy as it represents a $60 billion injection in disposable income.
Further to this, I am of the view that the grant being made available for Guyanese living abroad is an absolute genius strategy by the government.
Firstly, Guyanese living abroad who were thinking about taking a vacation back home, can do that because that 100k grant should cover part of their plane ticket or even a few days’ stay at a hotel. Secondly, if a significant number of Guyanese in the Diaspora return, it will yet again serve as a revenue boost, well beyond the $60 billion injection.
Overall, I think this move is a brilliant one and I commend the government for its strategic thinking.
