Opposition Member of Parliament, Annette Ferguson is throwing cold water on the growing list of endorsements for President Irfaan Ali’s second-term bid, questioning whether those who have spoken glowingly for a second term have the power to influence the voting population.
Ferguson said while politicians and groups are busy backing President Ali ahead of the September 1, 2025 elections, many ordinary Guyanese are still struggling to make ends meet and aren’t impressed by fancy endorsements. Ferguson pointed to what she described as serious issues under the current PPP/C government, especially when it comes to justice, fairness, and transparency. She highlighted the case of Adriana Younge, saying the lack of accountability.
She also took aim at the government’s claims of development, saying the reality on the ground tells a different story. “Yes, some infrastructure projects have started, but a lot of it is incomplete or substandard,” Ferguson said.
She said that people are still dealing with poor healthcare, drug shortages, and long waits at clinics.
Ferguson made it clear that endorsements do not impact the poll.
“Let me be clear, endorsements do not equate to electoral victory. What truly matters is whether those offering these endorsements can genuinely influence the voting population,” she said.
She said the cost of living continues to weigh heavily on families across the country, and if a simple poll were done in all 10 regions, the government would see just how little things have improved for many.
Ferguson’s comments come on the heels of some even from her party including the Region Four Chairman, Daniel Seeram and her fellow MP, Geeta Chandan-Edmond endorsing the governing party for a second term.
