The Government has taken another step toward strengthening Guyana’s agro-processing sector with the commissioning of a $58.5 million facility at Canal Number One Polder, Region Three. The initiative is aimed at expanding value-added production and reducing the country’s reliance on raw agricultural exports.
The facility, strategically located in one of the region’s most productive farming communities, is expected to help address longstanding challenges faced by farmers, including crop seasonality, perishability, and fluctuating market demand. By supporting preservation and processing, the project will enable farmers to extend the shelf life of produce and increase earning potential.
