Police are investigating an alleged murder which occurred on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, about 00:00hrs at Haswell, Port Mourant, Corentyne, Berbice, resulting in the death of Naresh Seecharran, called “Cat Man,” a 27-year-old labourer of Glasgow, East Bank Berbice.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Seecharran and a 20-year-old construction worker of Lochaber, East Canje, Berbice, were among a group of persons imbibing alcohol and playing music when an argument ensued between them.

The argument escalated into a scuffle, during which the suspect allegedly dealt the victim a stab wound to the left side of his neck. The suspect then fled the scene on foot.

The injured man was escorted to the Port Mourant Public Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival by a doctor.

The body was examined, and a stab wound was observed on the left side of the neck.

Acting on information received, the police contacted and arrested the suspect at No. 19 Village, Corentyne, Berbice. He was escorted to the Whim Police Station, where he was placed into custody.

The body was escorted to the Ramoo Funeral Home, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination.

The suspect remains in custody as investigations continue.
