At Muneshwers Wharf in Georgetown, Customs Officers from the Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA), in collaboration with the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU), intercepted a shipment originating from the United States bound for Guyana, uncovering narcotics and weapons.
The operation was conducted on Tuesday based on intelligence information. Authorities searched two incoming barrels and discovered seventy-one transparent parcels containing approximately 37.2 kilograms of foreign cannabis, with an estimated street value of around seventy-one million Guyana dollars.
In addition to the drugs, officers seized three pistols along with eighteen rounds of 9mm ammunition.
CANU said several individuals linked to the shipment were immediately detained and are currently in custody, cooperating with investigators on ongoing inquiries. The agency said that the seizure forms part of ongoing collaborative efforts with GRA Customs and CANU Officers to prevent the entry of illicit drugs concealed in cargo and other shipments.
