Guyana Power and Light Inc. (GPL) has extended condolences to the family of a person who died in a workplace accident in the New Houston area this morning, while urging contractors, workers and members of the public to exercise greater caution when working near electrical infrastructure.
According to GPL, the accident occurred after scaffolding reportedly rolled away from a building and came into contact with one of the company’s 13.8 kV primary distribution lines.
The incident resulted in the death of one person and injuries to at least two others.
In a statement, GPL expressed its “deepest condolences” to the family and loved ones of the deceased, while also extending sympathy to those injured and hoping for their “full and speedy recovery.”
GPL used the incident to remind contractors, workers and members of the public of the dangers associated with operating near electrical lines, poles and other components of its network.
The company urged those working in the vicinity of its infrastructure to exercise extreme caution and ensure that appropriate safety measures are maintained at all times.
GPL said such precautions are necessary to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
